“When buildings are net zero they use clean energy, are highly efficient and don’t waste energy – helping us to win the fight against climate change. That makes them heroes. Let’s make all buildings net zero by 2050.” World Green Building Council
25th September 2017: This week marks World Green Building Week and Britain’s Energy Coast colleagues are using the week to spread the word about the benefits of green building and construction.
With the building industry responsible for a third of all carbon emissions in the UK and up to 30% globally, sustainable building and the drive towards net zero building is at the heart of BEC’s work as it operates and develops its property portfolio.
This week the team will be building on their knowledge by taking part in the World Green Building Council’s special webinars and making their pledge to developing the field of low carbon building using the dedicated ‘pledge map’. BEC’s Twitter channel has also been given over to a “ThunderClap” event in a bid to raise awareness of green building issues.
CEO Michael Pemberton commented: “We are celebrating all that has been achieved in the field of sustainable building across the globe with our industry colleagues. This is one of the most important weeks in the year for us. It’s so easy to forget the bigger picture when you are cracking on with the day job and World Green Building Week gives us that opportunity to pause and consider the art of the possible. On day one, we are already seeing images and news flooding in of fantastic projects across the world that will inspire our work here in Cumbria.”
Team members have also penned blogs in honour of their green heroes and will be sharing these as the week progresses.
